From Windows 10 to Windows 11: What Do I Need To Do & When?

At Pro Cloud SaaS, our priority is keeping your business secure, compliant, and running smoothly. With Windows 10 support coming to an end, it’s the perfect time to start planning your move to Windows 11.
Common questions our IT team have been asked over the last couple of weeks include: "How do I know if my device needs to upgrade?” & “Does it matter if I stay on Windows 10?”
Here’s everything you need to know & do - in plain language.

What is Windows 11?
Think of Windows 11 as the next generation of Windows — built to look a little bit sleeker, and to keep your business safer. Microsoft has added stronger protections that are now considered essential for modern workplaces:
Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0: Adds a hardware “lockbox” for encryption and credentials.
Secure Boot: Stops malicious software before it even tries to load.
Virtualization-based Security (VBS): Keeps sensitive processes isolated and harder for attackers to reach.
Windows Hello for Business: Makes signing in more secure with password-less options.
These updates are about meeting today’s compliance standards and keeping your business resilient against cyber threats. A lot of the updates that come with Windows 11 are also convenient features that will boost performance & automatically add another layer of security to your devices.
Why Upgrade from Windows 10?
Sticking with Windows 10 might feel comfortable, but there are some risks:
End of Support: Microsoft will stop releasing security updates for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
Compliance: Running an unsupported system could mean falling short of industry requirements.
Better Security: Windows 11 is far better equipped to block modern threats like ransomware.
Performance Boosts: Improved multitasking, faster performance, and better integration with cloud tools.
It’s Free: upgrading to Windows 11 is free for devices that are running a genuine, licensed copy of Windows 10 and meet the hardware requirements.
Upgrading now means less stress later, and ensures your business stays safe and compliant.
How to Check if Your Device is Ready
Good news: checking only takes a few minutes:
Open Settings: Click the Start menu and select Settings.
Go to Update & Security: Choose Windows Update from the sidebar.
Check for Updates: Click Check for updates. If your device is eligible, you’ll see the option to upgrade to Windows 11.
Download & Install: Follow the prompts to begin the upgrade. Ensure your device is plugged in and backed up before starting.

If you don’t have time to run checks on every machine, don’t worry. Our Engineers can do this for you. We’ll run a full report across all your company’s devices and let you know:
Which ones are good to go.
Which need upgrades.
Any software or apps that may need attention first.
That way, you’ll have a clear roadmap before making any changes.
What if My Device Can’t Run Windows 11?
Not every device will meet the requirements for Windows 11. If your computer is older, it may not have the right processor, TPM chip, or Secure Boot capability. In those cases, you have a few options:
Upgrade Hardware: Sometimes a simple hardware upgrade (like enabling TPM in BIOS) is all that’s needed.
Replace Devices: For older systems, replacing with a new Windows 11-ready device is often the most cost-effective solution.
Plan Ahead: Our Engineers can help you identify which machines are nearing end-of-life and build a replacement plan that fits your budget and business needs.
This ensures you aren’t caught off guard and can spread upgrade costs out sensibly over time.
Deadline to Remember
Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025.
This is just a couple of weeks away. After that date, your systems won’t receive critical security updates - which means higher risk and possible compliance issues.
